Lenten Parish Mission: Holy Angels Parish, Wood River, IL

Considered a dynamic and engaging speaker, Dan Dúet brought a Holy Spirit-packed Lenten presentation to the parishioners of Holy Angels Catholic Parish in Wood River, IL, for the First Week of Lent.

Using the same topics he will cover at all of his Lenten Missions this year, Dan began on Sunday evening with the topic: “Jesus: Liar? Lunatic? Lord!”. The presentation focused on the divinity and authority of Jesus and the authority He had to begin His Church through St. Peter. This teaching authority, given from God, now rests in the hands of Pope Benedict XVI. Dan spoke of the implications this has for all Catholics, but especially here in America. He also spoke of the need to bring our “Sacramental Relationship” with Jesus deeper into our “Personal Relationship” with Jesus.

On Monday night Dan explored the Eucharist with a presentation titled, “Jesus is in the House!”. Using Scripture from the Gospel of John, the Acts of the Apostles, and the First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians, Dan focused on not only what Jesus and St. Paul said, but also what the DID NOT say. Very compelling look at the literal sense Jesus spoke with when He said, “My flesh is true food. My blood is true drink.” Truly, at the consecration during Mass, the bread and the wine do indeed become the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Truly, Jesus is in the house!

The final night of the Mission, Tuesday, provided three events in one. First was a shorter presentation from Dan titled, “Jesus: Healer of My Soul”. This talk focused on the expectation that Jesus has the men and women will seek out forgiveness of their sins not by going directly to God, but by going to a representative of His on earth. This is found in John 20:21-23. Dan pointed out that Jesus gave the Apostles the authority to forgive sins, an authority that we receive in the Church today through Apostolic succession, going back to the first “anchor verses” from the Sunday presentation, found in Matthew 16.

Following the presentation was a short Reconciliation Service, which led directly to the opportunity for all of the gathered faithful to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Pastor Jim Flach was assisted by two brother priests in offering the Sacrament.

The Mission was deemed a success by Fr. Flach and others! Praise God for the power of the Holy Spirit! Dan wishes to thank all of the volunteers who assisted throughout the event, but in particular, Dee Turnbaugh, for going above and beyond in making Dan feel so welcome from the get-go, and for all of her hard work.

Recording in Canada

Dan is proud to once again be Producer for Matt Di Filippo. Matt and Dan are in Canada recording Matt's 3rd CD of original, inspired, instrumental music. Making the trip is also Levi Guffey, co-songwriter of 7 of the songs that will be on the new CD, "Between the Notes".

On Monday, July 11, they arrived in Kitchener, Ontario, to record with musician and recording engineer Dave Flitton. Dave has many, many years of experience in both the secular and Christian music industry, although his primary focus is not only the Catholic music industry, but his favorite genre of music: Catholic Christian Metal. (for the record... no, Matt's CD will not be metal... LOL)

Matt and Levi are laying down the primary guitar tracks and Dave will add in the other instruments shortly. This CD is shaping up to be something truly beautiful, inspiring, and annointed.

They return to the States on July 21. They will be in Sabetha, KS, for a concert on July 24 and in Kansas City, KS, for a concert on July 25, returning to San Antonio on July 26.

Unity Awards Postponed

The United Catholic Music and Video Association (UCMVA), sponsor organization of the Catholic music/video industry "Unity Awards", has announced that the Awards scheduled for October 2011 in San Antonio have been postponed until October 2012.

A date for the Awards has not been determined but will most likely be the second or third weekend of October 2012, still in San Antonio, and still hosted by Two-Twelve Ministries. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

The formal announcement regarding 2011 is as follows:

May 2, 2011

To all UCMVA members and future members:

It is with deep regret that I notify you of the cancellation of Unity Awards 2011, which was set to be held in San Antonio this year, which has now been rescheduled to be held in 2012 (date to be announced later in the year). This cancellation was decided upon due to matters beyond our control.

As you know, this has been a year of great calamities throughout America from severe storms, flooding, war overseas and a great down turn in our economy. Due to this, we have found that the need for donations from various organizations that have previously helped support the Unity Awards in the past, is now much needed elsewhere.

With every disappointment comes the hope and joy of a bright future and a full year to continue the growth of the UCMVA and plan for a great gathering, education and performance presentation in San Antonio in 2012.

May God bless you during this coming year and may you continue to shine with God's love in the ministry he has gifted you with in music, video or any other form of media. God Bless.

On behalf of the UCMVA Board

Susan M Stein, President

Even after winning the NFC Championship Game last year and could have immediately left the Superdome to begin celebrating thier first-ever trip to the Super Bowl, they took time to ensure the tradition lived on. Enjoy this wonderful story.
