Trusting in Your Mercy - Margo B. Smith

words and music by Margo B. Smith

Note from Dan (followed by the story behind the song by Margo B. Smith)

Sometime around May of 2007 I became a member of the Catholic Association of Music and instantly was in touch with Catholic recording artists and music ministers from all over the country. One of the first people to welcome me to the group was Margo B. Smith from Baltimore. She even posted a nice “Happy Birthday” message on the chat board later that summer.

We remained in touch and in June of 2008 we had the opportunity to meet at the summer conference of CAM. What a great time! During one of the “CAM JAM” sessions on the porch at the Little Portion Retreat Center, me and Margo got to offer our talents with a djembe and a tambourine. I must admit, Margo had me wayyyyy beat on the djembe but I could play a pretty mean tambourine!

The entire group of us performed a concert in Eureka Springs at a non-denominational church, with John Michael Talbot kicking things off with three songs. (Yes, all of us can officially say that “Yeah… John Michael Talbot opened a concert for me…”) When it was Margo’s turn to perform, I was captivated not only by her immense talents, but by her heartfelt devotion to God as she sang. It was obvious she was there not to entertain, but to allow the Holy Spirit to minister through her. I decided at that point I would learn more about her music and ministry.

Over the years we have become more than just fellow recording artists, we have become friends. Margo knows that when I am traveling around the country on tour, she is going to receive several phone calls from me. Often I lose cell phone reception in the middle of our conversations but we’ve learned to just laugh about it and try to pick up where we left off once I get to an area with a cell tower.

Margo has been a source of tremendous encouragement to me when times were a bit rougher as I was starting out with a full-time ministry. I encourage you to click the link below and visit Margo’s website. Get to know her, her ministry, her calling. You won’t be disappointed.

Note from Margo:

The song “Trusting In Your Mercy” was inspired from reading the DIARY: Divine Mercy in My Soul by Saint Faustina. It has become one of my favorite books. This song came to me as I was reflecting on the Lord’s mercy in my life.

Reprinted with permission.

Jesus, let me cradle Your hands in mine
Let me kiss Your wounds, You’re my Lord divine
Jesus, let me hold You, let me wipe away Your tears
I will always love You, all my life long years

Chorus
I’m trusting in Your mercy,
I am trusting in Your mercy, Lord
I’m trusting in Your mercy,
I am trusting in Your mercy, Lord

Jesus, I know I bring You misery
All my thoughtless words cause You injury
My sins have crucified You, they have torn You apart
All my hurtful actions have broken Your heart

Chorus

Jesus, I want to make it up to You
All the sorrow and pain that I put You through
I want to make a confession,
I’m so sorry for my transgressions
You’re the one who loves me
Claim me as Your possession

Chorus

Let me give You consolation
I want to make reparation
I’m trusting in Your mercy for a reconciliation
